Stainless Steel Extracting Tank

Stainless steel extracting tanks are used to separate soluble components from solid or liquid raw materials with water or another extraction solvent. The tanks have cylindrical bodies and conical bottoms, which make it easier to drain the extract and remove the remaining solids after processing. Steam heating through the jacket brings the mixture to the required temperature, while circulation and agitation keep the raw material and extraction liquid evenly mixed during extraction.

The extracting tanks are made from SUS304 stainless steel and include steam-heated jackets, rock wool insulation, internal stainless steel filter screens, and pneumatic bottom-opening discharge mechanisms for residue removal. Process monitoring can include low-level and temperature sensors, while the upper section can be fitted with quick-opening manways, stainless steel breather valves, CIP spray balls, and circulation connections. Central paddle agitators are installed at the top, and the lower connections are used for extract discharge and circulation.

Applications

Stainless steel extracting tanks can be used in traditional Chinese medicine, food, and chemical processing for atmospheric or low-pressure extraction, hot-water extraction, warm soaking, hot reflux, forced circulation, percolation, essential oil extraction, and solvent recovery.

Working Principle

Raw materials and water enter the tanks first, while steam flowing through the jackets heats the contents to the required temperature. During extraction, the circulation pumps keep the liquid moving through the tanks, and the central agitators keep it in contact with the raw materials. The circulation pump keeps the hot liquid moving through the raw materials, while the central agitator keeps the contents in motion. Continuous contact with the hot liquid extracts soluble components from the raw materials. After the extraction cycle, the liquid extract flows out through the outlet, and the pneumatic bottom discharge opens to release the spent solids.

Features
  • The tanks include CIP cleaning systems that meet GMP requirements.
  • Steam-jacket heating and liquid circulation improve contact between the raw materials and solvent during extraction.
  • PLC controls monitor and regulate temperature, pressure, and liquid level in real time.
  • Sealed construction limits contact with outside contaminants and reduces solvent evaporation.
