Plate pasteurizers continuously heat milk, juices, beverages, and other pumpable liquids for pasteurization or UHT treatment. They have a multi-section plate heat exchanger that keeps the incoming liquid and hot water in separate channels. The incoming liquid (product being pasteurized) and hot water (the heating medium) flow through separate channels in opposite directions, so heat passes through the plates into the liquid while the two streams remain separate. Each plate type pasteurizer includes a balance tank, product pump, plate heating section, hot-water tank, hot-water pump, brazed-plate heat exchanger, temperature-control and recording devices, piping, valves, and a control system that manages the process manually, semi-automatically, or fully automatically.

Process Flow
  • Products such as milk, juice, tea, and other beverages enter the balance tank and are pumped into the plate heat exchanger.
  • Before the main heating stage, the incoming beverage is warmed by the beverage leaving the holding tube after UHT treatment, so part of that heat is recovered and reused.
  • Steam-heated water then raises the beverage to the required treatment temperature without coming into direct contact with it.
  • The beverage remains in the holding tube for the specified time to complete UHT treatment.
  • Once the holding time is complete, the beverage passes back through the heat exchanger and transfers some of its heat to the incoming beverage before entering the cooling section, where it reaches the required outlet temperature.
Applications

Suitable for liquid products such as fresh milk, yogurt drinks, flavored milk, soy milk, dairy beverages, fruit juice, tea drinks, alcoholic beverages, and ice cream mix.
